Preschool

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me..."

Matthew 19:14

Our Preschool Ministry is offered for children ages 3 through Kindergarten. This includes Sunday School classes, Wednesday night activities, and other special activities. We train children to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ through fun, educational, and age-appropriate activities in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment.
We consider it a privilege to work with each child in guiding them toward the time when they will come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

Sunday Mornings

Join us for Sunday School: 9:30 a.m. - 10:30

a.m.

During our Sunday school hour, our Preschool classes, as well as all of our children and youth classes, are being taught from a curriculum that is purchased from Lifeway. The Gospel Project is what is taught at this time.

The Gospel Project for Kids is a Christ-centered ongoing weekly Bible study resource that looks at the big picture of God’s story: the story of redemption through Jesus Christ. Each week, kids of all ages will follow a chronological timeline of Bible events while learning how each story points to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Wee Worship

During the 10:45 a.m. Worship Service

During our morning Worship Services, we offer a Wee Worship for Preschoolers aged 3 to Kindergarten. This takes place in our Preschool Department in Room A.

There is a specific time during the worship service that the children will need to be brought to this service by their parent or guardian. This is noted in our bulletin and on the slides projected in the sanctuary.

First Baptist PlaySchool

PlaySchool is a ministry of First Baptist Church with a long history of providing a Christian atmosphere where preschoolers can freely socialize with their peers. It is an important first step in learning to find his/her place in a classroom setting as we prepare them for traditional school. All learning that takes place at Playschool is designed with the primary focus on helping form children with a high level of functionality within a group. Our main goals are to teach them God’s incredible love for them and how to play well with others within a classroom setting. If you have any questions about Playschool, please do not hesitate to give Kelly a call.
Would you like more information about our PlaySchool Ministry? Have a question that we didn't cover on this page? Please drop us a note so we can connect with you!

Kelly McElveen is our Preschool, Children's, and Playschool Director.

Mrs. Kelly McElveen serves as both our Director of PlaySchool, since 2004, and as Director of Preschool and Children’s Ministries, since 2014. Kelly has a background in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, earning both her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Master of Education from Louisiana State University. Passionate about sharing her love of ministry to children, Kelly has led breakout sessions and trainings for the Louisiana Baptist Convention and neighboring Tri-County Baptist Association at various conferences and trainings. She is also a Louisiana Believes Level III Certified Pathways Trainer.

Kelly and her husband Stephen make their home in Stoney Point, where they raised their three children, Mack, Gentry, and Kennedy. Mack is the Pastor of New Zion Baptist Church in Tylertown and is married to his high school sweetheart, Haley. Gentry is a dispatcher for WSTE. Kennedy is a dental hygienist in Covington. Kennedy and her fiancé Alex plan to be wed in May.
